How To Make Money While Being A Student

Are you a student and looking for ways to make money? Finding that jobs are not very plentiful? Here are a few ways that you can make money in this economic climate!

Whether you are student looking for extra cash or working your way through college or high school there are opportunities for you to make money. Working while attending college can help you finance your education.

Most students find that they can be successful in their studies while working 10 to 15 hours per week. Research shows that students who work moderate hours (10-20 hours/week) learn to manage their time better which can lead to improved academic performance.

Further, being employed affords an opportunity to enhance fundamental skills such as communication, time management, customer service, and more.

You can look for student jobs in the federal government. These include: summer jobs, internships and fellowships. There are two main types of student employment opportunities in the federal government. Both offer flexible work schedules and enable students to work year round.

The Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) allows students to get paid for part-time jobs during the school year or a summer job and it does not need to be related to your major.

There are University work-study employment programs which may be offered and/or considered according to availability of funds and a student's knowledge and/or skills.

Working on campus helps you earn money to pay for your educational expenses and help students develop a sense of community and belonging.

Internships provide an individual with a monitored or supervised work or service experience where the individual has intentional learning goals and reflects actively on what he or she is learning throughout the experience.

Internships before graduation from college are one of the most effective ways students can enhance their potential for retention in a future job.

Of course you can seek employment in other areas such as: food service, computer programming, maintenance, recreation, audio/video services, housekeeping, office, and graphic art and many more.

My final and best recommendation would be to become self-employed. Work from home in a business that you have a passion for. Did you know that you can turn a hobby, talent or skill into a successful business? However, you will need a website.

Here are just a few suggestions of the types of businesses that you may be interested in running from home. They include many areas such as:

-- drawing

-- self-publishing

-- decorating

-- sewing

-- crocheting

-- collecting

-- writing

-- dog grooming

-- raising horses

-- any 'how to' site

-- resume service

-- printing

These are just a few ideas. Just keep in mind that just about any topic that you would like to start a business on could be a viable business opportunity for you!
